Sponsored by Jeremy Whiteker, Dave Perry-Miller Realty

  • Building Permit on March 28, 1910 for 2 story, 8 room house for $4,200

  • Original Owner: Robert S. Ransdell, the Principal at the nearby Fanning Elementary School (itself a designated Dallas landmark that opened in 1915 at 4800 Ross and is currently the DISD Innovation Design Entrepreneurship Academy).

During the late 1920s, much like their neighbors, the Ransdells rented rooms to boarders. Their tenure in the house extended until at least 1939, as evidenced by a Dallas newspaper article celebrating their son’s wedding. In 2003, a devastating fire wreaked havoc on the home’s second floor. Remarkably, successful repairs transformed the house into a central character in a feature film released in 2008. As you explore the house, take note of the mosaic inlay immediately inside the front door—a sarangi, a Persian stringed instrument, pays homage to previous owners who shared its name. The first floor boasts coffered ceilings and original wood flooring, while fine details like etched glass in the transoms and dentils on the banisters grace various corners. The house layout reflects a series of modifications, including the intriguingly configured butler’s pantry and the third-floor dormer. Enjoy your tour!

Wine Offerings

Standard Pour (Selected by The Wine Therapist) Faustino Rivero - Ulecia Reserva

This Spanish Rioja Reserva is a smooth, silky wine with ripe-strawberry and floral character.

Premium Pour (Selected by The Wine Therapist) Masut Rural Pinot Noir

From Mendocino County, the fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed and pressed into small French oak barrels for aging. Balanced between the juicy red berry flavors and the fine earthiness and minerality that is the hallmark of great Pinot Noir.
