  • Building Permit on February 25, 1913 for 6 room, 2 story frame house for $2,975

  • Original Owner: Ignatius A. O’Shaughnessy, salesman for Bankers Trust Co. Banker’s Trust Chairman of the Board was C.C. Slaughter, who developed this block of Tremont (formerly Crutcher) alongside the Munger brothers.

Since its construction in 1913, this house has been home to just a few families. The Farrells purchased the home 84 years ago and have witnessed multiple generations grow up within its walls. Sharon (née Farrell) Van Buskirk, the current resident, undertook extensive restoration and updates after acquiring the property in 1997 from her parents.

Sharon fondly shares stories of her father’s youth, recalling how he ran with other neighborhood children—a close-knit group humorously known as the ‘Tremont Gang’. Even as the world changed and families pursued different paths, the Tremont Gang continued to hold regular reunions on the front porch well into the 2000s.

Despite the evolving landscape of East Dallas over the decades, the house remained mostly untouched due to its enduring ownership within a single family. Notable features of the house include box beam ceilings, built-in cabinets, original light fixtures, and oak hardwood floors in the front and dining rooms. The back screened-in porch was thoughtfully enclosed to create a mudroom, downstairs bathroom, and laundry area.

Over time, the current owner further enhanced the house by renovating the kitchen, adding a primary bathroom, and more recently, incorporating a back media room. As you explore the home, keep an eye out for family photos displayed around the house—snapshots of the owner’s loved ones taken near the very locations where they are now displayed!
